Google has signed an agreement with Toyota to create a solar-driven electric car, according to a blog post by Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Toyota’s SolarLink, a prototype vehicle, is being designed to be fully electric, and Pichau said the company’s engineers are working with Google on developing a “better” solar-to-electric hybrid vehicle.
Toyota announced the solar-electric vehicle project in February.
Pichah, a former Google executive who joined Google in 2013, was a keynote speaker at the Future of Mobility conference in February, when he called solar-charging an emerging technology.
Pixar’s Cars and Google launched a partnership in 2017 that gives the company access to Google Maps data.
The carmaker has also invested $1 billion in solar panel makers, SolarWorld and SunPower.
